Crime Victim Compensation
The State of Arizona provides Crime Victim Compensation to financially assist victims of crime. Funds to pay crime victim compensation claims come from a penalty assessed defendants at the time of sentencing. You may apply to the Maricopa County Crime Victim Compensation Board for compensation for your out-of-pocket costs.
You may be eligible for compensation if:
- The crime was reported within 72 hours.
- A claim is filed within 2 years of the discovery of the crime.
- You willingly cooperate with appropriate law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies.
- The crime directly resulted in physical injury, extreme mental distress, or death.
- Compensatory loss was incurred as a direct result of the crime.
- You are NOT serving a felony prison, probation, or parole sentence.
Compensatory losses include:
Medical expenses, funeral costs, loss of wages, and mental health counseling.
